Received of John Logan ful satisfaction for All Demands December the 21st 1816

James Hicks

If you are a frequent reader of “Them Medfords”  you might recall the infamous John Logan/Thomas Hicks nose biting incident. Thomas Hicks has appeared in two Logan documents, “X”ing his mark. I bring this up because I was never able to pinpoint any solid information on Thomas Hicks so perhaps researching this James Hicks will provide a clue.

I’ve come across several references to a couple of James Hicks’ living in Rutherford County, NC. One reference from “The Hicks Families of Western North Carolina (Watauga River Lines)”, by John Henry Hicks, 1991, mentions a James Hicks that acquired 200 acres in Rutherford County in 1782.

I’ve contacted a couple of Hicks researchers seeking additional information so check back as I will update this post as information comes in.

If you have any info about Thomas Hicks or James Hicks, please post a comment below.
